Street to School

Our Mission

The Problem

  • 3 out of 5 children do not attend a school.

The educational gap between socioeconomic classes in Nigeria is widening. About 11 million of the country's children aged 5-14 years old are not in school as of 2020. (UN 2021)

  • 58% of 6-11 year old attend a primary school and only 36% of children aged 3-5 years old receive early childhood education.

Solution: Learning Pillar

  • Initial assessment of Children - Emerging, Emerged, Excelling: We undertake an initial assessment which helps in ascertaining the learning strengths and needs of every child registered.
  • Resourcing: The project caters to a maximum of 35 children per class from the selected community. This will require at least 5 educated volunteers with basic communication skills in the native language.

  • Teaching and learning: The teaching and learning are structured into 2 sections. One session will focus on the children with zero educational background and the other on those with little educational background. Both sessions are expected to take place 4 hours a day, 4 to 5 times a week for 3 months in the pilot community.

  • Training of Volunteers: Prior to the commencement of the teaching and learning program in a community, the volunteers will be engaged in a 3 to 4-weeks basic teaching skills and techniques training program required for teaching students with Global Delay and English as a Second Language limitations

Solution: Construction Pillar

  • Sustainable: The school bus would be designed to be able to generate Solar power as well as having a water collection and filtration of rain water system.
  • Self-Sufficient: The school will be designed with emphasises on flexibility; the workrooms can be expanded, extending the workrooms beyond the confines of the construction, creating more workspace.
  • Activation: A mobile school moving from one community to another, twice a week, maximum of 5 kilometres proximity from each community.
